Why do I write?

Have you ever asked yourself that question? If you have, what was the answer? Well, up until recently, I’d never tried to figure out why I write, but thinking about becoming a full-time writer made me analyze my reasons for wanting to do so.
First and foremost, writing gives me pleasure. When I’m writing, I feel emotions, and, at least for a time, I can live in another dimension—a world in which I can have control over every single aspect. I can feel happiness, pain, and love, whenever I choose, unlike in real life, where my choices are limited. Writing opens up a world that places unlimited possibilities before me.
I write also because doing so gives me balance. I’m not shy—it’s not that… I can talk for hours about almost any subject, but it’s hard for me to express my emotions. When I try to talk about what I’m feeling, I find it’s difficult or sometimes impossible for me to verbalize what goes in my mind. But when I write, emotions, thoughts, and ideas become clear, and I am able to translate these onto the paper. This allows me to organize my feelings and thoughts.
Additionally, I write because it’s a challenge! To have the ability to tell a story, make it believable, and provoke emotions in other people’s life is hard. Many people try, but few reach the point of writing “the end”. So when I’m writing, I encourage myself to keep going. “You need to finish this,” I say. “This is one of your most important goals!” This helps me to keep going, and I feel great about not giving up and being able to accomplish something I’ve set out to do.
I write because I’m grateful for the wonderful writers who have given me so many special moments and feelings during my whole life while reading. So I would like to offer people good moments, great feelings, some fun, and If I have the chance to give people meaningful messages.
Do I write to be a success? Of course! I give my best, I try to improve every day, I try to learn how to become a better writer. In return, I don’t think there’s anything wrong with hoping for a little recognition when I’ve created a good book.
Do I write for money? Well, It would be great if someday one of my novels make me rich, but this is not what I focus on most. More importantly, I write because it feels so good!
Think about that next time you decide to write. Does the process make you feel good? Do you find excitement in creating characters and telling stories? Does this bring you happiness? Are you motivated by these emotions, or is your first or only thought: I want find a way to earn money? If that’s the case, you may not be ready to be an author, and this might be the wrong profession for you. Writing is about emotions and love, it’s about happiness and fantasy, it’s about hard work and pleasure, not just about making money.
